SLIDER

Goodbye, Hoolio

For a few years, my parents-in-law have been blessed with the giant pile of love named "Hoolio." Pronounced just like it looks.  Why not "Julio?"  I don't know.  Don't ask.  They adopted him from the Humane Society and from the day he came home, to be cliche, it was a match made in heaven. Hoolio and his new parents, especially his new daddy, were inseparable.  My father-in-law used to joke to Shawn that he was no longer the oldest of the siblings, that Shawn now had an older "brother."

Hoolio was a big dog with the heart of a puppy.  He had a stuffed red teddy bear to play with, every Christmas he camped out on the living room rug and chewed on his gift: a giant rawhide bone, and he was quick to befriend strangers once he realized they smelled okay.  He lived for belly rubs and beggin' strips and loved car rides with his "daddy" more than anything.

Sadly, for the past few months, Hoolio was battling an ongoing sickness that turned out to be multiple tumors and kidney failure.  When treatments didn't work and the last trip to the vet proved the tumors were actually growing, my parents-in-law came to the difficult decision to have him put to sleep so as to ease his suffering. Trust me when I say that for them, coming to this decision was not easy, but they could only do what they felt was best for their baby so he wouldn't be in pain any longer.
So goodbye to Hoolio, the giant dog with the heart of a pup.
You will be missed.
