Summer Fun

So in addition to the July 4, that entire week was Cherry Festival week here.  What does that mean? It means that our relatively small town suddenly has thousands upon thousands upon thousands of tourists for a week of partying, shopping, beach-going and bad driving.  A lot of the locals here hate the festival and avoid it as much as possible.  Some people love it and plan their annual vacation around it.  Me?  I'm fairly whatevery and indifferent about the whole thing.  It has both good and bad elements, like all things and mostly I just go on about my life and avoid the heavy traffic areas as much as possible.

This year, Shawn and I both had the 4th off, which is smack dab in the middle of Cherry Fest, so we hitched a ride with my Aunt & Uncle and went downtown for the afternoon to do touristy things.  We shopped a little, we got special ice cream and ate at the sidewalk table, we watched the Junior Royale parade, took tons of random pictures, paid too much for french fries and sodas, and munched on soft pretzels while watching the fireworks with some family and other random people we didn't know.  All in all, it was a good day.

Shawn is on vacation from work this week and I happened to have 3 days off work in a row, so last night (now that the Festival is over and things are calming down), we went to the bar for some drinking like we haven't done since our first date.  Mostly because we are boring people who spend our extra money on books, baseball cards and action figures rather than going out a lot.  I know cool people go to the bar a lot, but I'm just not that cool.  Sorry.

I did actually take a lot more pictures on July 4, our one day at the Cherry Festival, but many of them are either completely random crowd shots and such or else I'm in them and let's be honest here: I am not a fan of myself in photographs.  Also, I took some pics of our date night at the U&I Lounge, but since they were taken with my phone and the lights were dim, they basically turned out pretty shitty.  But know this: even with a real good buzz on, I am still a 100% geek.  Apparently not even Jack Daniels can make me cool.  *Sigh.

  2. I had completely forgotten the Festival was going on last week (I know--how could one forget!) when I went to TC to run errands. It was crazy! I am definitely one of those folks who is glad it only happens once a year.

  4. Although I hate when festivals overtake where you live, I LOVE cherries, so I'd have to suck it up and be on board. Then I'd eat cherries till I barfed. ;)

    1. Hey Sondra - thanks so much for checking out my little space here and commenting. You'd probably love the cherry fest - there are tons of interesting cherry recipes and organic foods shared. Cherry BBQ sauce, cherry ice cream topping, cherry wine....yeah, you'd love it. :)

  5. I've never been able to figure out the bar/club scene. I feel so awkward and out of place. I really don't like the whole trying to get a bartenders attention and then try to figure out what to order with out a menu :/

I'm glad you were able to have a date night with your hubby! Looks like you guys had a great time.

I think you should let your sig other yay or nay your photos, everyone is always their own worst critic!
